HD Hires Alan Hansen and Jeff Butera
Software and Higher Education Industry Veterans Alan Hansen and Jeff Butera Join Growing Digital Solutions Provider
Tysons Corner, Va., November 18, 2019 – Higher Digital, the leading digital strategic advisor to higher education institutions, today announced it has hired former Western Governors University and Ellucian executive Alan Hansen as the company’s new vice president, platform and product management, and 22-year higher education veteran Jeff Butera as senior consultant.
Hansen will be responsible for Higher Digital’s new (SEA)RESULTS® platform, which provides higher education institutions with a combination strategic consulting / software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution to help them meet their digital transformation goals. Hansen will oversee the platform’s long-term product roadmap, including the development of key features and capabilities, while leading the company’s product management services team. In this capacity, Hansen will ensure that Higher Digital’s platforms leverage a unique combination of innovative emerging technologies and exceptional consulting services to help customers and partners achieve true digital transformation.
Hansen is a 30-year software industry veteran with a wealth of experience in the higher education space. He served as director of product management at Western Governors University, where he led a team responsible for the development of mobile, infrastructure, back office, and other systems and solutions for the school’s employees. He was previously director of product management at BYU Pathway (part of the Brigham Young University educational system), where he created an English language learning solution, EnglishConnect; and vice president of product management at Ellucian, where he led the Banner product line, an ERP system used by more than 40 percent of the U.S. higher education market.

As senior consultant, Butera will coordinate digital planning and strategy for Higher Digital’s customers and guide higher education institutions through enterprise architecture and digital integration projects. He will also be extensively involved in developing and maintaining (SEA)RESULTS, ensuring that the platform meets the current and future needs of Higher Digital’s customers.
Butera has more than 22 years of experience overseeing the implementation of large-scale technology initiatives in the higher education sector. Prior to joining Higher Digital, Butera was executive director of information technology at Becker College, where he oversaw the school’s help desk, servers and networking infrastructure, enterprise applications, and web services. Butera also spent 16 years at Hampshire College, where he managed applications and web services and directed the software development life cycle for large-scale custom applications supporting the school’s academic program.
